Pavement Ants
Identification
Their size ranges from 1/16" - 1/8" in length. Their color is a reddish brown. If you look at the head straight on you under fairly high magnification would see that it has little ridges that give a "textured" appearance. All the rest of the common home-invading ants have smooth faces. Pavement ants have a pair of spines on the back of the thorax (middle section). This characteristic is shared by a couple of other species. However, the pavement ant is the only one with spines, lines on the face, and a two-humped petiole (the constricted area between the thorax and abdomen).
Habits
Pavement ants make the little sand mounds you see in pavement, driveways, pavers, and sidewalk cracks. These ants are considered a “nuisance insect” because they do not cause structural damage to your home. Pavement ants will be found in where food is served and stored. They have an insatiable hunger for sweet and greasy foods. In dryer times of the year, they forage to areas of moisture such as the bathroom or kitchen areas.
Control
Rainbow Pest Experts are trained professionals that will use targeted methods to apply our products in a manor that is consistent with the safety and well-being of your family in mind. We take advantage of the pavement ant’s natural behavior by treating the perimeter of the exterior with a non-repellant product that is undetectable by the ants. The product attaches to their bodies as they walk through it. They will then transfer the active ingredient to every member of the colony as they touch each other while feeding, grooming, and communicating. Within three weeks, the ant activity should be under control. If the nest is located in or under the house, we will apply spot treatments to areas where activity has been detected on the interior. This service is guaranteed for 90 days.
