Stage 2: Prevent Future Mice
The second step in getting your house free of mice is to prevent mice from getting in.
Mice are break-in artists that find multiples ways inside—not just at ground level. Simply eliminating the current infestation won’t provide long-term peace of mind. Sealing and blocking entry points prevents additional mice will follow the scent trail left by the first invaders.
The Art of Exclusion:
Rainbow Pest Experts has perfected the art of Mouse Exclusion – the act of physically locating and patching rodent entry points to reduce or eliminate future invasion. This requires in-depth knowledge of building structures and where they are vulnerable to rodent entry.
First, our team performs a thorough foundation inspection to identify all entry points. Then, by using construction grade materials, we neatly & thoroughly patch gaps the size of a pencil & larger.
When exclusion is done properly it minimizes the use of rodenticides and traps, providing a long-term solution to the rodent population within the structure. We use professional-grade building materials that stand up to mice and Minnesota weather, including:
- Flashing
- Quickcrete and Aggregate Concrete
- Copper mesh
- Hardware Cloth
- Elastic sealant (designed to shift with the structure—extremely important in Minnesota!)
See our before and after gallery for examples of the material and expertise we use in sealing entry points.
Our prevention service means you can rest assured: breaking the cycle of getting mice out of your house only to have them return. As an added bonus, sealing cracks can improve your home’s energy efficiency, and reduce the number of insects entering from outside. Best of all, we provide a two-year limited warranty, which includes two free follow up visits within the first two years for our mouse service!**
*NOTE: Limitations that prevent a thorough and successful foundation seal-up include: any obstructions such as decks or porches built very low to the ground (less than three feet high), existing building materials that mice can easily chew through such as foam insulation, and in less frequently encountered situations, very old homes with flagstone foundations, which are susceptible to crumbling and natural degradation over time.
**NOTE: Warranty available to customers who have completed interior and exterior mouse protection; contingent upon full access to the foundation, attached garage, and attic.
